Emergency numbers
Worth saving before you land. Looking them up in a hurry is the worst way to find them.
911 has bilingual operators. If you do not speak Spanish, say "Emergency, English please" and you will be transferred. Calls are geolocated, so even if you cannot say where you are, they can find you.
Tourist police units also operate in Playa del Carmen, Tulum, Cozumel and Isla Mujeres, reachable through the same 911 line.

Something left on the plane is not the airport's problem. Items forgotten on board are handled by the airline, not the terminal. Contact your airline's lost property department directly — going to the airport desk will only cost you time.
Also worth knowing: the airport releases items in person or by phone only. Email is for questions, not for claims.
Consulates
The United States, Canada and several European countries maintain consular representation in Cancun or in Mérida, which covers Quintana Roo.
We are confirming current contact details directly with each mission before publishing them. A wrong phone number in an emergency is worse than no phone number at all, so this section goes up when it is verified, not before.
In the meantime: if you lose your passport, the first call is to your consulate and the second is to the local police to file a report. You will need the report to get a replacement travel document.
