A private transfer from Cancun airport to Puerto Aventuras costs $85 USD one way for the whole vehicle — not per person — and carries up to 8 passengers. The journey takes about 1h 15. Your driver watches your flight, waits at the exit holding your name, and takes you straight to your hotel with no stops.

Why book it before you fly
The gate is the reason to book rather than improvise. A taxi that drops you at the entrance leaves you and your luggage a long walk from the door.
- The price is fixed now. At the counter it is set on the day, per car, and 8 passengers means more than one car.
- Your driver has the hotel name before you land, so nobody is reading an address off a phone at midnight.
- If your flight is late, your driver already knows: that is what the flight number is for.
- You walk past everyone offering you a ride and look for your name.
Booking takes about two minutes. Area, date and how many of you there are. Your exact hotel is chosen on the next screen, and you pay there.
What every transfer includes
These come with the fare rather than as extras at the counter. It is the part that separates a booked transfer from a car you find at the kerb.
- Driver waiting at the exit with a sign bearing your name
- Flight tracked in real time — if you land late, the driver is still there
- Private vehicle, direct — never shared, no stops for other passengers
- Fixed price per vehicle — taxes and tolls included, no surprise at the door
- Air conditioning in every vehicle
- Bilingual drivers, English and Spanish
- Child seat on request, at no extra cost
- Travel insurance and GPS monitoring on every ride
Which vehicle for your group
The price is per vehicle, so the cheapest option for four people is the same one as for eight. Pick by how many seats and how much luggage you need, not by how many of you there are.
Up to 8 passengers
Toyota Hiace van or similar
Families and small groups. The best value: the price is the same for two people as for eight.
Up to 5 passengers
Chevrolet Suburban or equivalent SUV
Leather seating and extra legroom, when the arrival is part of the occasion.
Up to 15 passengers
VW Crafter or Mercedes-Benz Sprinter
One vehicle and one booking instead of coordinating three taxis.

Where the driver actually meets you
Not at the kerb and not in the baggage hall: past customs, in the public arrivals area, holding a sign with your name. The exact spot depends on which terminal you land in.
| Terminal | Where to look |
|---|---|
| Terminal 2 | The arrivals hall opens onto a covered walkway. Drivers wait past the line of counters, not inside it. |
| Terminal 3 | The busiest exit at the airport. Keep walking to the far end of the barrier, where it is quieter and signs are readable. |
| Terminal 4 | Two exit doors. Drivers meet at the one on the ground floor, after the shops. |
The people who approach you first are not your driver. Between customs and the exit there is a stretch of desks offering transport and timeshare presentations. Your driver stands still and holds a sign; they do not walk up to you and ask where you are going.
Arriving in Puerto Aventuras
A gated marina community rather than a town: one entrance, a security barrier, and condominiums and hotels arranged around the harbour. Your driver needs the property name to get you through the gate.
The road: Federal Highway 307 south, past Playa del Carmen. ADO buses on the 307 stop on the highway outside, not inside the community. With luggage, that is not a practical arrival.
Children, seats and awkward luggage
Four things that have to be said at the moment of booking, because afterwards there is no way to add them.
- Child seats have to be requested when booking, at no extra cost. They are not automatically in the vehicle.
- Wheelchair-accessible vehicles exist but are limited — request one well in advance, not the day before.
- Outsize luggage (golf clubs, dive gear, a surfboard) needs declaring at booking, so the vehicle assigned actually fits it.
- Extra stops — a supermarket run on the way to the hotel — are added when booking, not asked for in the car.
How booking works
- Pick the area and your datesThe form above needs three things: where you are heading, when you land, and how many of you there are. Nothing else.
- Choose your exact hotel on the next screenThe list of areas sets the fare. Your specific hotel, resort or Airbnb address is chosen on the following screen, from the full hotel list — including the ones with a name nobody spells right the first time.
- Add your flight numberThis is what makes the driver wait when you land late. Without it, a delay is your problem; with it, it is theirs.
- Confirmation, then the exit doorYou get a confirmation with the meeting point for your terminal. On the day, walk past everyone offering you a ride and look for your name.

I found it incredible to have the opportunity of adding stops as an extra service. It certainly helped me go to the store and buy some things before arriving at the hotel, so I would not have to go out again.Sarah J.Published by eTransfers
