Cancun gets a nonstop to Los Cabos on 1 December 2026

What we measured, and what changes

We count what actually operates at Cancun rather than what a directory lists. Of the 758 flights on the airport's own board this week, none went to Los Cabos or came from it — the route is being added from scratch, not increased. Two of the largest resort airports in Mexico, and no direct flight between them: today the trip means a connection, and from Cancun the frequency runs through Mexico City (94 flights in that same week, plus 45 through Santa Lucia) and Guadalajara (26).

That changes on 1 December 2026, when Volaris starts a nonstop between the two, three times a week, with an Airbus A320.

The times that are loaded today

The clock times look odd until you remember the two hours between them: Cancun runs on UTC-5 all year, Los Cabos on UTC-7. Flying west you land at a time that reads earlier than it should; flying east you give those two hours back, and the tailwind makes the return about half an hour shorter.

A schedule loaded this far ahead can still move. The times above are the ones in the selling systems on 21 September 2026.

Which terminal, and how much time to leave

Volaris flies out of Terminal 2 at Cancun. All 687 Volaris flights in our sample used it, so this is measured rather than assumed. Terminal 2 handles 51% of everything that moves here, more than any other.

It is a domestic departure, so check-in and security are the shorter domestic process — but Terminal 2 is also where the domestic peaks land. Two hours before departure is comfortable for a 10:30 flight; less than that and you are relying on a short queue.

Coming back: 18:00 is a quiet hour to land

This is the part a timetable will not tell you. In the days we counted, arrivals into Cancun concentrate between 09:00 and 15:00 — 54 flights landed in the 14:00 hour alone, and 50 in the 10:00 hour. The 18:00 hour had 14. Coming back on Y4 663 you land when the halls are emptying rather than filling, which is the difference between a long immigration-free walk to the curb and a crowded one.

From the terminal, the hotel zone is 25 to 60 minutes depending on where your hotel sits along the strip, and longer towards Playa del Carmen and Tulum. Book the transfer for a while after the landing time, not for the landing time itself: with a checked bag, allow 30 to 45 minutes between touchdown and the curb on a domestic arrival.
