Isla Mujeres is a beautiful tiny island full packed of different attractions, perfect for a day trip to escape from the crowds of the big cities. It is just a 20-minute ferry ride from Cancun Hotel Zone, with a predictable tropical climate for almost the whole year. Whether you want to relax or have a new adventure, there are many things to do during the day in Isla Mujeres, and here are some of the most popular options.
Playa Norte is maybe the most famous beach on the island, with perfect white sand and clear turquoise waters, that is also named one of the best beaches in the Caribbean. It is located at just a 10-minute walk from the ferry port and a perfect option to chill out and watch the sunset over the water.
The water in Playa Norte is really calm and shallow, making it great for families with children. In there, there are many beach clubs, restaurants, and bars to choose from. Take your precautions since the beach can get busy, so it is recommended to get in there early.
Punta Sur is located on the southern point of the island, ideal for those looking for adrenaline with a historic ecological park, short walking trails, cliffs, and not-so-quiet waves crash. There are also some Mayan ruins dedicated to the Mayan Goddess Ixchel that you can admire along with the stunning rocky views. Punta Sur is a great option to experience something different while enjoying the scenery,
Visit MUSA (Museo Subacuático de Arte) is one of the most popular activities in Isla Mujeres and a total recommendation for your visit. It is an underwater sculpture project with more than 500 sculptures created by Jason deCaires Taylor as an artificial reef to promote the growth of corals and marine life.
There are different options to explore this attraction, either tour the museum in a glass-bottom boat or get a snorkeling/scuba diving tour for a closer experience. MUSA is divided into two galleries with three salons: Salon Nizuc, Punta Sam and Machones, each one of them with different capacities and suitable for the tours.
Isla Mujeres is known as one of the world-class snorkeling and diving places thanks to the several sites and reefs with extensive marine life. It is also one of the few places where it is possible to snorkel with the incredible whale sharks by getting the tour offered by the locals.
Garafon de Castilla is one of the favorite places to swim and snorkel at a very affordable price. It is located just next to the Garrafon Reef Park and is perfect for relaxation with different amenities that include lounge chairs and spectacular views.
Isla Mujeres is a tiny island that you can easily travel on foot, however, the golf cart is the vehicle by excellence and the best option to move around. At your arrival, you can rent it per hour or the entire day to tour along the east coast road and feel the breeze in your hair. There are many car rental agencies near the Ferry Port, the prices are around USD $50 for a 2-seat vehicle during the entire day and you only need a valid driver’s license to rent it.
